My Reflection on the Course- Educational Technology
The
course Educational Technology has changed my life significantly. I am now in
agreement with the ISTE standards which said “technology has forever changed
not only what we need to learn but the way we learn”. The set of standards have
guided me and will continue to guide me in teaching and leading with technology
in education. I have seen where my higher order thinking skills and creativity
have developed. The creation of this website inspired me as I designed a
student-centered online learning environment. I am now able to create and integrate
technological tools such as podcast, wikis, webquest and interactive
PowerPoint. To be honest, I never really understood the true meaning of
integrating technology until I met this course. Where
my students are concerned, I have realized that simply being able to use
technology is not enough. I must help my students to use technology to analyze,
learn and explore which means I must possess the skills of the digital age.
As a 21st century
teacher, I must be able to integrate technology in the classroom. In doing so,
I must use technology in teaching and learning to introduce, reinforce, expand,
enhance, remediate or assess curriculum targets. I also realized that I must
model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use; this has
to do with referencing and crediting other persons’ work.
I must also change,
adapt and utilize modern technologies to engage students in the creative
adventure of education, so the students are intrigued and enthusiastic
participants rather than reluctant, passive, unprepared-for-the-world learners.
In order for this to be achieved, I must come out of my comfort zones and meet the
students at their level. If this is not a change then what is?
This is a great
opportunity to extend sincere gratitude to my lecturer Mrs. Bridgette Flowers.
She has inspired me in many areas of technology and of course she lived up to
the expectations. Thank you for contributing to this positive and invaluable
change .
